The pitiful boy with a twisted head of 180 degrees, as if about to fall
Mahendra Ahirwar, a 12-year-old boy from Madhya Pradesh, India, suffers from a rare and mysterious condition that causes his neck to curve and his head to rest at an inverted angle of 180 degrees, as if it’s about to fall off. Due to his weak spine, the unfortunate boy is unable to stand or walk, and instead, he remains seated in one place. He moves around by crawling and dragging himself, but he is unable to feed himself or attend to his personal hygiene.
Mahendra’s father, Mukesh Ahirwar (40 years old), and his mother, Sumitra Ahirwar (35 years old), work as manual laborers and earn meager wages. Despite their limited income, they have made numerous efforts to take their son to over 50 doctors across India for medical consultation. However, none of the doctors have been able to diagnose Mahendra Ahirwar’s condition.
“I can’t bear to see my son in pain anymore. He can’t do anything; he just sits in a corner of the room all day. That’s not a life,” Mahendra’s mother confided through tears.
She further added, “I carry him everywhere like an infant, but my son is already 12 years old. How can I carry him when he grows older? If the doctors can’t cure him, I beg God to take my child away.”
In addition to Mahendra Ahirwar, Sumitra and Mukesh also have two healthy sons aged 16 and 10, and a 14-year-old daughter. Sumitra explained that since their previous children were born without any abnormalities, she didn’t consider ultrasound examinations or regular visits to the doctor during her pregnancy with Mahendra.
