Terrifying moment as an enraged elephant impales a half-tonne wild buffalo
The horrifying moment when an enraged elephant impaled a wild buffalo with its tusks, launching it into the air and trampling it to death.
A wild buffalo was peacefully resting under a tree in Maasai Mara, Kenya, when a female elephant spotted it. The elephant became furious and immediately charged at the buffalo. The massive elephant used one of its tusks to pierce through the buffalo’s chest, lifting it high into the air.
The buffalo did not die instantly. Conservation rangers present at the wildlife reserve believed that the elephant must have been extremely provoked to display such unusual behavior. These images were captured by amateur photographer Kimberly Maurer, 56 years old, during her visit to the wildlife reserve.
Kimberly stated, “I looked at the photos taken after the elephant’s attack, and I was fascinated by capturing every breathtaking moment. These could be the iconic pictures of my lifetime.”
A wild buffalo was resting under a tree in Maasai Mara when a female elephant became angry and attacked the buffalo. The buffalo, weighing up to 580kg, was ruthlessly lifted into the air without mercy. Three young elephants standing nearby continuously trumpeted as they witnessed the adult elephant brutally trampling the buffalo to death. The buffalo, nearly defenseless after being struck in the chest by the elephant’s tusks, remained still and was ruthlessly trampled to death.
