For the past ten years, Danny Wakefield has been a staunch advocate for the LGBT community. This time, he embarked on an even more powerful endeavor: experiencing the miracle of giving birth as a transgender man.

The power of bringing new life into the world is indescribable, but the photographic documentation of birth has become a beautiful way of capturing that moment. Such was the case with American influencer Danny Wakefield, a transgender man who recently gave birth to his daughter, Wilder Lea, after ten hours of labor.

In a series of six emotional photos, Danny is seen sitting in a pool indoors, summoning all his strength to bring his little one into the world through a natural delivery. “This is the moment my Wilder met the world. She came so fast that my [vaginal] labia split, and I needed five internal stitches. I currently have four lips until they heal, and I’ve never felt so tough from my battle wounds in my entire life,” Danny shared about the birthing experience.

Before sharing the photos of the birth itself, Danny also posted a video where he is seen pushing for the last time, allowing his daughter to enter the world. The presence of his mother by the pool, holding his hand and wearing a protective mask due to the ongoing pandemic, highlights the importance of safety during childbirth.

For those eager to witness the expression of the newborn up close, Danny shared an emotional photo of his daughter lying on his chest, engaging in skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth. “All of you were telling me the truth; this is the most amazing moment of my life,” declared the proud father.

Even before the birth of his daughter, Danny had been actively raising awareness about the respect and understanding of transgender bodies for the past ten years. However, as his belly grew during pregnancy, he also aimed to shed light on what it means to be a fat parent and the struggles faced by those in similar situations.

In his recent post, Danny reflected on the subject: “This baby is still baking, but it’s okay. I look down at my belly, and I have never seen such beauty in my body. Pregnancy has given me permission to love myself on a level my soul feels.”

Initially, Danny felt insecure about the changes his body underwent during pregnancy. However, he chose not to silence his feelings of shame but to acknowledge and hold them as he would his own newborn. As a result, the shame dissolved, and he realized the beauty of his body, regardless of the numbers on the scale.

Danny also shared his past struggles with addiction, including battling a deep addiction to methamphetamine. He expressed empathy for others facing similar challenges and urged people to refrain from commenting on other individuals’ bodies, as they might not know the full extent of someone’s journey or the battles they are fighting.

To those who are currently struggling with addiction, Danny offered words of encouragement, reminding them that they are worthy of life and recovery. “We do recover, and when we do, our greatest dreams come true.”
