Sick Street Puppy Makes Remarkable Recovery with Chimpanzee Assistance

Imagine coming across a sick and dying puppy on the side of the road. It’s almost certain that you would do everything in your power to help it. After all, animals experience pain just like us humans, and it would be inhumane to turn a blind eye to a visibly ailing creature.

Such was the case for a woman living in West Africa who stumbled upon a puppy teetering on the brink of death. Determined to provide aid, she engaged in a heated discussion with the locals and eventually managed to transport the puppy to a nearby chimp sanctuary. Together with the chimpanzees, they worked tirelessly to nurse the puppy back to health.

Thanks to the selflessness of this woman, the puppy now thrives in a loving home, free from illness and unhappiness. An emotional video documenting the dog’s inspiring journey to recovery has been shared, spreading hope and warmth to viewers worldwide.

The video, uploaded on YouTube by Their Turn, has garnered over 7.2 million views, along with thousands of likes and comments. It portrays the rescue mission, beginning with Jenny Desmond and her husband Jimmy encountering the puppy in a remote village in Liberia.

While Jenny and her husband primarily focus on their work in the Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection unit, they couldn’t resist aiding other sick and injured animals they encountered. The puppy’s condition was dire, and they couldn’t bear to leave him behind. Afflicted with worms, fever, eye and skin infections, and severe malnutrition, the poor creature desperately needed their help.

If you saw a dying puppy in the street, we’re pretty certain that you’d do whatever you could to help it. Animals feel pain in the same way that us humans do, and it would be inhumane to ignore any creature that was obviously sick.

So when a woman living in West Africa spotted a puppy who was close to the brink of death, she was determined to help him in any way that she could. After a heated discussion with the locals, she was able to take the puppy to a nearby chimp sanctuary where she and the chimps helped to nurse him back to health.

Thanks to the selfless woman, the puppy is now happy, healthy, and in a loving home, and an emotional video of the dog’s long healing process has been shared for us all to see.

“Just look at him. He’s being eaten alive,” she pleaded, lifting the small dog to show them. “Do you want me to leave him here to die?” she added.

Eventually, Jenny managed to safely bring the puppy into their car, firmly deciding never to return to the heartless village where residents had callously witnessed his deteriorating health.

“I won’t bring him back. I promise you that,” Jenny reassured her husband as they drove away from the village.

Once they arrived at the chimp sanctuary, the puppy, whom Jenny named Snafu, was bathed and examined by Jimmy, a veterinarian. Snafu was so ravenous that his body had begun to consume its own muscle. However, the sanctuary staff made certain that he received an abundance of food and water.

Jenny and her husband work in the Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection unit, however they cannot resist rescuing other sick and injured animals whenever they come across them. The puppy was clearly dying, and the pair didn’t have the heart to leave him behind. The poor thing had worms and was ill with a fever, as well as eye and skin infections, and was dangerously underweight.

Shockingly, although the villagers didn’t seem to care much for the injured pup, as Jenny tried to pick him up they instantly protested. Although it’s not clear why they were protesting, it may have been that the villagers felt that the dog was their property, and were expecting Jenny to pay some money towards taking him. But Jenny didn’t allow them to change her mind.

“You see he’s being eaten alive,” she said, holding up the little dog for them to see. “You want me to leave him here and he’s gonna die?” she added.

Eventually, Jenny was able to safely get the puppy into the car, vowing to never bring him back to the village where residents had so heartlessly watched him become more and more sick.

“I’m not bringing him back. I’m just saying that,” Jenny promised her husband as they drove away from the village.

Once back at the chimp shelter, the puppy, who Jenny named Snafu, was bathed and assessed by Jimmy, who is a vet. The puppy was so hungry that his body had begun digesting its own muscle, so those at the shelter made sure that he had plenty to eat and drink.

Over the next few weeks, Snafu’s condition improved more and more. First, his fur began to grow back and his coat changed from scruffy and wiry to shiny and soft. Thanks to the cone of shame to stop him from licking his wounds, Snafu’s sores healed and he continued to grow bigger and stronger every day.

Over the following weeks, Snafu’s condition steadily improved. His fur regrew, transforming from scruffy and wiry to glossy and soft. With the help of a protective cone to prevent him from licking his wounds, Snafu’s sores healed, and he grew bigger and stronger each day.

Yet, the most significant change in Snafu was his personality. The tired, timid dog had disappeared, replaced by a joyful, energetic companion bursting with vitality. Witnessing his remarkable transformation was truly astounding.

The chimpanzees played a vital role in Snafu’s recovery, insisting on carrying the tiny pup up and down the stairs. Thanks to the relentless efforts of Jenny and Jimmy, Snafu underwent a complete transformation after a year of rehabilitation. It was finally time for him to embark on the happy ending he so deserved.

Ensuring Snafu would find a secure and joyful home was of utmost importance to the couple. When Jenny’s niece offered to provide a loving home for the pup in Colorado, they were overjoyed. Snafu now eagerly awaits his new life.
