Captivating Approaches to Arranging Individual Lotus Flowers
There are numerous techniques to arrange beautiful single lotus flowers, but commonly, two methods are favored: arranging them in a ceramic vase using the branch-to-branch technique and creating a floral “boat” with foam.
Before delving into flower arrangement, it’s important to properly care for the lotus flowers to ensure their longevity and optimal blooming.
Typically, cut the stem at an angle to allow for better water absorption. Then, immerse the entire flower into a container of water, with the flower head resting on the water’s surface. Let it soak for at least 3 hours to ensure the flower absorbs enough water. After soaking, gently invert the flower head downward for about 30 seconds to prevent water from flowing out of the stem.

– Lower Layer: Choose weak stems and larger, heavier blossoms to arrange first. While most people insert stems deeply into the vase, Trang suggests angling the stems, allowing the base to touch the edge of the vase. As long as the base is submerged about 10 cm underwater to keep the flower fresh, the exact placement isn’t crucial.
Arrange the blossoms in a circular arrangement around the vase’s mouth, allowing the stems to interweave and form gaps within the vase.
– Subsequent layers should be gradually higher, forming a round arrangement for the vase. Adjust the position of the stems for evenness and balance.
– Trim some stem tips to create varying heights for a more natural and smooth appearance. For taller lotus blossoms, Trang cleverly ties two chopsticks to the base of each blossom. This method provides stability and prevents tilting.
* Creating a Floral “Boat” with Foam:
– Use two specialized floral foam pieces. Soak the foam in water for about 30 minutes to ensure saturation; you’ll notice the foam becoming significantly heavier.
– Select the straightest and most rigid stems, placing the most beautiful and larger blossoms in the center. Insert the following stems at an angle, slightly apart, to prevent the blossoms from touching. When the flowers droop, they will appear naturally graceful and elegant.
– Subsequent layers should be lower than the upper ones. Insert lotus blossoms and other flowers alternately, ensuring that the flower heads face forward.
Both of these methods embrace simplicity yet sophistication, resulting in exquisite arrangements that elevate the ambiance and aesthetic of any space.
