Heartwrenching Moment Grandpa’s Dying Wish to See Beloved Dog Comes True Before Passing

In a deeply touching scene, a dying grandfather had his final wish fulfilled as he got to see his dog one last time. Nurses at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital arranged the emotional reunion to grant Peter Robson’s dying wish to bid farewell to his beloved border collie, Shep.

A heart-wrenching scene unfolded when a man’s family gathered to bid a final farewell to their beloved one who had reached the end of his road. They made sure to bring along man’s best friend, adding an extra layer of heartbreak to the moment. The loyal dog stood by her owner’s bedside, saying her last goodbyes alongside the rest of the family.

Ryan Chesson, a 33-year-old landscape designer from California, discovered a stray dog in a cemetery near his parents’ home about seven years ago. The dog, a little flea-bitten puppy named Molly, quickly became his companion. Over the course of their six years together, Ryan and Molly formed an unbreakable bond.

Unfortunately, in 2016, Ryan experienced what he believed was a migraine. Tragically, it turned out to be a ventricular brain hemorrhage that left him hospitalized at Rideout Memorial Hospital Marysville, where he remained in a coma supported by a ventilator. Eventually, the day arrived when his family had to say their final goodbyes.

Ryan’s sudden hospitalization was thought to be related to his high blood pressure, which, combined with his love for energy drinks, may have contributed to the brain hemorrhage. However, this was mere speculation by the doctors, as Michelle, Ryan’s sister, explained: “Today, it would be nice to be able to blame something, but we can’t. We don’t have answers.”

On November 30, 2016, Ryan’s parents and sister gathered to bid their final farewell to him. And it wouldn’t have been a complete family goodbye without Molly, his loyal dog, by his side. Thankfully, the hospital staff granted the family’s request and allowed Molly to accompany them.

Michelle described the family’s heartwarming decision to bring Molly to the hospital, saying, “Just realizing that my brother is not going to wake up, it was obviously upsetting. We wanted the dog to have closure; we wanted to make sure she understood.”

Michelle captured the heartbreaking scene on video and later shared it on Facebook, allowing Ryan’s friends and other family members to be part of the goodbye and witness the dog’s final moments with her owner. In her post, Michelle expressed her gratitude to Rideout Memorial Hospital for enabling them to bring Molly in to say goodbye so that she would understand why her human never returned home. She emphasized Ryan’s deep love for his sweet dog and the importance of providing closure for Molly.

As Molly approached Ryan’s bedside, her usual reaction of excitement and jumping on him was replaced by hesitation and uncertainty. She sniffed around her owner, seemingly aware of the sorrow in the room, her tail tucked between her legs. Ryan’s parents held her up to him, even placing her on the bed, ensuring she could be close to her owner for one last time.

Surrounded by tearful family members at his hospital bedside, Peter’s face lit up as his cherished pet was brought into the room. In a heartrending video shared online, Peter removed his breathing mask and leaned down to greet his furry companion, who wagged his tail with pure delight.

A family member gently lifted Shep and brought him closer to Peter, creating an intimate moment of connection. The loyal dog showered Peter with affectionate licks all over his face, displaying unconditional love and unwavering loyalty.

Sadly, Peter passed away shortly after their poignant reunion, leaving behind the treasured memories of their last encounter. The images and video of this bittersweet moment were shared on social media by Peter’s granddaughter, Ashley Stevens, and quickly went viral.

Expressing immense gratitude, Ashley wrote, “You don’t know what this meant to our granddad. We are eternally grateful.” She also praised Charge Nurse Cheryl White of NHS Tayside for going above and beyond to arrange this incredibly special visit.

In a Facebook post, Ashley further exclaimed, “Still in shock that the wish was granted and they went above and beyond today and made a dying man very happy. Cheryl White, charge nurse of Ward 3, you are an absolute angel.”

Senior Charge Nurse Fiona McCallum of Ward 3 also commended her staff for their exceptional act of compassion, saying, “I am so proud of Cheryl and the rest of the team for this caring and compassionate act. They worked tirelessly to make this possible, and I can’t thank them enough for going above and beyond to bring comfort to Mr. Robson and his family.”

NHS Tayside Chief Executive Lesley McLay extended condolences to Mr. Robson’s family during this difficult time, emphasizing their support for the grieving family.
