Unique Syndrome Gives Baby Layla Hair Resembling British Prime Minister Boris Johnson
At just 18 months old, little Layla has hair that bears a striking resemblance to that of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, all due to a rare condition known as Uncombable Hair Syndrome. This syndrome, which affects only about 100 individuals globally, results in frizzy, unmanageable hair that cannot be straightened.
Layla’s mother, Charlotte Davis, shared, “Sometimes we call her Boris because her hair cannot be combed. No matter what we try, her hair will never be straight. We’ve tried drying and applying moisturizer to no avail.”
Although this condition typically improves with time, the underlying cause remains a mystery. Uncombable Hair Syndrome is caused by a mutation in hair-related genes. Layla’s diagnosis came recently, and she lives with her parents and her 3-year-old brother, Freddie, in Great Blakenham, Suffolk, England. 
Layla’s hair has drawn attention, with people noting its similarity to Boris Johnson’s distinctive hair and even Albert Einstein’s iconic look. While her hair may stand out, Layla appears to embrace it, enjoying playing with her hair. However, she may need to adapt to other children’s curiosity about her unique hair.
Uncombable Hair Syndrome was first documented in 1973 and typically affects children under the age of 3, with the latest cases reported in those under 12. The affected individuals often have light-colored hair that is dry, frizzy, and resists attempts to be combed straight, growing in various directions.
