No Canine Left Behind, a canine rescue based in Minnesota, shared the remarkable journey of Smile, a dog that radiates happiness despite her troubling past. She was rescued from a hoarding situation in Tijuana, Mexico, where she was one of 23 dogs and 21 cats living in deplorable conditions.
While Smile may appear joyful, her history is riddled with hardships. The hoarding situation led to overpopulation, disease spread, and neglect. Many of the animals, including Smile, suffered from sarcoptic mange, a highly contagious and painful skin disease. Smile also had tick-borne infections and was pregnant at the time of her rescue. Sadly, she lost her puppies due to the abuse and stress she endured.
No Canine Left Behind immediately began addressing Smile’s physical and emotional needs, committed to giving her the second chance she so deserved. Despite her painful past, Smile’s infectious grin never waned. Her eyes held hope and trust, revealing her resilience and understanding that life could improve from there on out.
Stephanie Easley, the operations manager of No Canine Left Behind, felt an instant connection with Smile and decided to foster her after she completed quarantine for her skin condition. Smile’s foster home is temporary, and Stephanie knows that her home isn’t the perfect “forever home” for her. However, she remains hopeful that Smile will find a family who adores her as much as her current foster family does.
