Gives Him The Most Heartfelt Hug – Owl Recognizes The Man Who Saved Her
GiGi, a great horned owl, was on the brink of death when she was brought to Wild at Heart Rescue in Mississippi. The poor creature had suffered a severe head injury, likely from being struck by a car.
“This bird was one of the most critical cases we have ever dealt with,” said Missy Dubuisson, the founder of the rescue. “The fact that this bird has survived is beyond belief.” However, with extensive treatment, GiGi began to improve. And it’s safe to say that her remarkable recovery wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated care of Douglas “Doug” Pojeky, known as the “birds of prey whisperer.”
“In all my years of working with birds of prey, I have never witnessed such a profound connection between a human and these majestic birds,” explained Dubuisson. GiGi had complete trust in Pojeky. When he was away visiting his family in Michigan, her excitement was palpable upon his return. Not only did she start dancing, but she also rested her head on his shoulder and embraced him tightly. “Watching him interact with these birds brings tears to my eyes,” added Dubuisson. “They unequivocally recognize and trust him. You can see it in her eyes.”
The owl was so grateful to her rescuer, Pojeky, that she couldn’t contain her joy and showered him with affectionate hugs upon his return from his trip.
