The Exquisite Beauty of the Marvellous Spatuletail Hummingbird Listed in the Red Book
Loddigesia mirabilis is a species of hummingbird native to Peru. Currently, it is listed as an endangered species in the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List.
The Marvellous Spatuletail Hummingbird primarily inhabits the forests along the Utcubamba River in Peru. It measures only 10-15cm in length. It is adorned with iridescent plumage, and its most distinctive feature is its incredibly beautiful elongated tail feathers, resembling those of the birds of paradise.
Currently, there are estimated to be only 250-999 individuals of the Marvellous Spatuletail Hummingbird remaining. Due to its critically low population, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has included this species in its conservation priority list.
