Developments in M.U – Amrabat Transfer: Ludicrous Fee; Deceptive Maneuvers
Let’s take a look at the noteworthy developments surrounding the potential transfer deal for the Old Trafford team.
Ludicrous Fee
In the past, the media had consistently reported that Fiorentina was demanding a fee in the range of £30-35 million for the services of Sofyan Amrabat. Clearly, this was a reasonable valuation, considering Amrabat’s recent outstanding season and his remaining contract of around 2 years with La Viola (factoring in a one-season extension clause).
However, as revealed by journalist Jamie Jackson, the actual deal could potentially cost Manchester United up to £50 million. Undoubtedly, the Red Devils are not willing to meet this enormous sum, and it is expected that negotiations will be initiated to find a common ground figure with Fiorentina.
Amrabat could lead to significant spending for Man Utd.
Of course, the possibility cannot be ruled out that this is just a typical “price shouting” tactic seen whenever other clubs are approached by Manchester United. Previously, there was a time when Atalanta demanded up to £86 million for the services of Rasmus Hojlund.
Deceptive Maneuvers
Surprisingly, statements attributed to Amrabat emerged yesterday, suggesting that he might stay with Fiorentina. However, according to confirmation from Fabrizio Romano, these are fabricated quotes, and the reality is that there is no intention for Amrabat to remain with La Viola, as he had planned to move to Old Trafford after initial discussions in June.
Amrabat wants to join Man Utd.
The Italian journalist stated:
“There’s no doubt about Amrabat: he’s agreed with Manchester United. Amrabat wants to move since the first talks in June, regardless of attractive offers from Saudi Arabia.”
“I know Amrabat has never said he’ll ‘stay’ or anything similar. Those are fake quotes.”
“Divine Intervention”
According to Romano, Fred will absolutely leave Old Trafford this summer, and his departure is necessary for Manchester United to proceed with the plan to acquire Amrabat. Clearly, after spending over £150 million on Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund, the Red Devils need to stabilize their financial balance by selling players before considering additional expensive signings.
Fred has to leave for Amrabat.
It’s known that right after the successful sale of Fred, Manchester United will immediately submit an official offer to Atalanta to inquire about acquiring Amrabat.
Other Options
While Amrabat is identified as a top target, Manchester United is naturally considering several other options to improve their midfield. As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, one such option is Romeo Lavia, a midfielder from Southampton’s ranks. However, there have been no significant developments regarding this deal.
The Italian journalist disclosed:
“I know there have been reports about Manchester United also expressing interest in Romeo Lavia as a midfielder, but I’m not aware of any specific negotiations between Manchester United and Lavia at this time. They see Lavia as a top talent, but there’s currently no progress in terms of negotiations or offers.”
