Explorer Ben Fogle is leading an expedition aimed at providing evidence that these fearsome predators inhabit the seas near British beaches.

In a bid to capture footage of a shark feeding on camera, scientists plan to tow a whale carcass behind a boat equipped with cameras in the Irish Sea. This footage will be featured in an upcoming ITV documentary.

While marine experts believe it’s possible that great white sharks might occasionally venture into British waters, no concrete proof has been found so far. The expedition, set to start off the north coast of Devon, aims to change that.

A whale carcass that washed ashore in Scotland is being used as bait for the experiment. The carcass has been stored in a facility in Shropshire and will be positioned in an area called the Celtic Deep, located around 35 miles off the coast.

This pioneering attempt to study marine life outside of tropical waters could shed light on the presence of different shark species, although the odds of encountering a great white shark in British waters are still considered extremely low. Experts are divided on whether these predators truly frequent UK shores.
