How Airline Attendants Rescued a Dog from Suffocation on a Plane

Bringing pets on board an airplane is an extremely risky endeavor. This is a lesson that Michelle Burt learned firsthand when her beloved dog nearly suffered a fatal incident. During a JetBlue flight from Florida to Massachusetts, Burt’s French Bulldog began to experience discomfort as the plane took off.

Shortly after, its tongue turned blue, resembling the color of the sea, and Burt immediately realized that her beloved companion was in distress. However, surprisingly enough, it was the flight attendants who saved its life.

The dog’s blue tongue was a result of oxygen deprivation in its blood. With their short noses, French Bulldogs are prone to respiratory issues, and it’s highly likely that it could have suffocated to death if not for the swift assistance provided by two JetBlue flight attendants, Renaud Spencer and Diane Asher. Drawing on Renaud’s experience in raising French Bulldogs, he quickly recognized the symptoms and promptly placed an oxygen mask on Darcy. It’s worth mentioning how adorable Darcy looked with the mask on.

After a few minutes of breathing oxygen from the canister, Darcy returned to a normal state and survived the flight. One of Burt’s friends, coincidentally a flight attendant, shared this story on Facebook. It was a truly inspiring and touching account, albeit with a subtle hint of advertisement for JetBlue.
