Courageous Dog Becomes Symbol of Floods as She Saves Her Puppies
The heartwarming images of a dog rescuing her puppies have become a symbol of the tragedy that has struck India due to the floods.
These two photographs, captured by reporter Sanjay Kanoja of the news agency Agence France-Presse, have gained worldwide attention for their emotional impact.
In the pictures, we can see the mother dog carrying her little ones to a dry place in the town of Allahabad, as the water level rises due to the overflowing of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers.
It is worth noting that the heavy rains in the country have claimed over 400 lives and displaced 700,000 people.
The contamination of drinking water sources and poor sanitary conditions have raised concerns about the outbreak of diseases, as expressed by the authorities. Therefore, health personnel have been deployed to the affected villages to monitor the situation.
This act adds to another incident where a dog saved a family from death by waking them up in the middle of the night before a landslide destroyed their house in the southern Indian state of Kerala, also affected by the floods.
Mohanan P. and his family were asleep in their house located in the hilly region of Idukki when the dog started barking around 3:00 a.m. “We realized something was wrong, so we hurriedly left the house,” Mohanan P. recounted to the Indian television network NDTV. Shortly after they evacuated, a landslide destroyed their home.
