  • A fantastic day trip in Cape Town is to explore the Cape Peninsula, offering breathtaking beaches, penguins, a scenic drive, and awe-inspiring views. Our itinerary included a visit to Simon’s Town, where we enjoyed morning tea while exploring the waterfront. We then made a stop at Boulders Beach to marvel at the adorable penguins before embarking on a picturesque drive along Chapman’s Peak towards the Cape of Good Hope, the southwesternmost point of Africa. At this iconic location, we took the obligatory picture with the sign and climbed to the top for a truly spectacular panoramic view.

Insider Tip: If you prefer not to rent a car and drive yourself, I highly recommend joining a guided full-day tour from Cape Town.

  • Boulder’s Beach, located just outside Simon’s Town, is a haven for the African penguin colony. Visitors can enjoy the unique experience of getting up close to these fascinating creatures and their nesting grounds, thanks to a network of boardwalks that traverse the area. These African penguins are the sole penguin species found on the African continent.

  • An hour’s drive outside of Cape Town, you’ll find the Cape Winelands region, encompassing Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and Paarl. These three areas are my personal favorites in the region. Instead of dealing with the hassle of driving, I opted for a day tour of the Winelands because, let’s be honest, who wants to drive when there’s an abundance of wine to be enjoyed? And trust me, there’s plenty of wine to go around!

One highlight of the tour was visiting Fairview Winery as our first stop. They offered a delightful wine and cheese pairing experience. What made it even more special was the fact that all of their cheeses were sourced from the goats that live on the farm. The combination of their delicious wines and the flavorful cheeses was truly a treat for the taste buds.

For lunch, we made a stop at Middelvlei Wines in Stellenbosch. It was here that we indulged in their famous cheese sandwich along with a variety of sausages and Biltong, a traditional South African dried meat. The meal was hearty and satisfying, perfectly complementing the wine we had been enjoying throughout the day.

In the afternoon, we visited Lovane for a special wine and chocolate pairing exclusive to the tour. It was a delightful experience to savor the different flavors and textures of wine and chocolate, creating a harmonious blend of indulgence.

Spending a day in the Cape Winelands regions is a truly enjoyable, relaxing, and delicious way to immerse oneself in the beauty of the area.
