Dog With The Scary Face Finds A Family Who Thinks He’s Perfect

In 2013, Murray and his three Weimaraner siblings were found on Dead Dog Beach in Puerto Rico, a notorious spot where people abandon unwanted pets. Rescuers discovered them at around 12 weeks old, showing signs of distemper, a devastating virus that affects a dog’s neurological system.

Christina Beckles, founder and president of The Sato Project, a Puerto Rican organization that rescues stray dogs, noticed the indicators of distemper while examining Murray. She felt a click in his jaw, a telltale sign. Beckles made the difficult decision to euthanize Murray, believing it to be the most humane choice. However, when the time came, the vet had a change of heart.

“She carried him to the table, and he wagged his tail… and she couldn’t,” explained Beckles.

Although Murray had a slim chance of survival, with one of his sisters already succumbing to the disease, he showed signs of improvement with treatment. However, he still faces health issues, including moderate seizures, and the distemper caused his skull to grow in an unusual shape.

Despite his physical challenges, Murray found a loving home with Mackenzie Gallant and her family. They began fostering him in November 2013 and officially adopted him the following month, just in time for Christmas. Murray’s appearance didn’t matter to them; they cherished him regardless.

“He’s my favorite dog,” said Gallant. “I adore him. Every night, he sleeps in my room.”

Even when Gallant went away to college, she maintained a strong bond with Murray through regular FaceTime calls. Murray still slept in her room, and he understood when she said it was bedtime.

Back at home, Gallant made sure to spend quality time with Murray, going for long walks with him and their other pets. Murray’s happiness and affectionate nature brought joy to the family.

“He’s prospering, and he’s just happy all the time,” Gallant shared. “He adores all dogs and all humans.”

Four years since his rescue, Murray holds a special place in Beckles’ memories, and she is thrilled that he found the perfect home.

“This dog may look different, but he’s not. He still enjoys going for walks and hiking,” Beckles noted. “He is not treated any differently than the other dogs.”

Gallant’s family has provided Murray with the love and care he deserves, and Beckles couldn’t have asked for a better outcome for him.
