Mother Knows Best: Adorable Elephant Calf Rescued from Watering Hole with Mom’s Trunk
Witness this heartwarming moment as an adorable elephant calf receives a helping hand from its mother after getting stuck in a watering hole.
The young calf seemed to be thoroughly enjoying itself, frolicking in the water. However, when playtime came to an end, it struggled to make its way back onto dry land.
Fortunately, the wise mother knew exactly what to do. She gently wrapped her trunk around the calf’s body and lifted it out of the pool, even giving it a gentle nudge from behind to help it scramble up the bank.
This heart-melting incident took place on the Chobe River in Botswana and was beautifully captured by Neal Cooper, a professional photographer from South Africa.
Describing the scene, Mr. Cooper shared, “The elephant family had arrived at the river, and the little one was eager to play and bathe in the water. However, since the calf was only a few weeks old, the mother kept a watchful eye on it to ensure its safety.”
“It seemed like the mother was teaching the calf how to utilize mud to stay cool in the heat and how to extricate itself when stuck. She appeared to be setting an example and imparting valuable lessons.”
“The river is always a remarkable place to observe and photograph wild elephants, as you get to witness various family units and observe how they interact with each other and their own kin.”
