‘Forest warrior’ buffalo fatally charges lion to protect its kind

When witnessing two ferocious lions preparing to devour an innocent buffalo, a courageous and mighty forest buffalo bravely rushed in, risking its own life to confront the bloodthirsty predators and rescue its fellow species.

These images were captured by photographer Wim van den Heever while passing by a swamp in the Okavango Delta in Botswana At that moment, when the two hungry lionesses were stalking a young calf and were about to catch their prey… suddenly, a mother buffalo charged in to intervene. Unwilling to give up the opportunity to hunt a larger meal, the two hungry lions pounced and attacked the helpless mother buffalo. Another male buffalo, witnessing the scene, immediately charged in to fight both lions and save its kind. This ‘warrior’ buffalo continuously used its head and horns to strike the lions’ necks and bellies. Faced with the strength of the forest buffalo, the two lions were filled with terror and quickly sought an escape route. One of the lions suffered severe injuries and succumbed two days later.
