Memorable outing Woman gives birth in the waves
A woman recently welcomed her first child at the water’s edge of a beach, with the support of her doula and obstetrician, in what she describes as a “natural and ecological birth.”
Maria Luna, who is also a doula herself, shared videos of her remarkable and empowering birth on social media, explaining how she prepared for this unique labor and delivery.
“Today was the day, the anticipated day when we experienced our natural, physiological, ecological birth in the place we had dreamed of, with wonderful details provided by God to live it and with the perfect company,” she wrote in the comments of her video.
“While waiting, negative thoughts occasionally crept in, but as God says in His word: Philippians 4:6-7, ‘Do not worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.’
“All those negative thoughts faded away, and even though the previous days were rainy, thinking about the labor process being the first time experiencing it, we never stopped believing, visualizing the power of living according to God’s design in this new birth. But above all, every night on our knees, seeking His will.”
Maria explained that the birth was carefully planned, taking all variables into consideration.
“To go through this process, a birth plan was created, which was shared with the team of compassionate professionals attending the birth. We assessed the variables to ensure it could be lived under favorable conditions, including weather, the timing of the process, a healthy pregnancy, and a healthy baby. Both mom and dad were informed and determined.”
Although not able to control everything, they hoped that everything would flow according to God’s perfect will. It was a day filled with radiant sunshine, a process that began during the day, with the team’s support to carry it out.
Baby Amelia was born on July 16th at 10:15 a.m. on the beach, surrounded by Maria’s husband, Raul Ramirez, their doula, and obstetrician.
The videos have garnered thousands of likes and comments, with many praising Maria for her strength and determination. However, some expressed concern about the safety of giving birth on the beach.
“I understand that hospitals can be violent and disrespectful, but to claim that giving birth like this is safe and right is regressing 200 years in preventable infant mortality,” commented desix1989.
“We humanize births with discretion, working to create ideal conditions that are beneficial for both mother and baby. Water births with clean water at a suitable temperature and adequate osmolarity, births with freedom of movement and positioning, accompanied by the father and the family… all of that is precious. But let’s maintain the medical criteria, which allows us to point out that marine microbiota harbors vibrios that are difficult to treat bacteria, and the sodium content in river water is not suitable for intake by a newborn baby with a circulating volume.
“She is so young and has a stomach that is initially full with just 5cc, so ingesting a salty drink implies maximum risk. River water may contain amoebas that literally eat brains. Anyway… let’s combine well wishes and humanizing practices with responsible medical exercise.”
