Rescued Lion Bids Goodbye to Lifelong Rescuer after 20 Years Together

Jupiter, a lion from Colombia, gained fame during his time at the renowned Villa Lorena. He was saved from a circus where he endured frequent abuse and had his claws cruelly removed.

Villa Lorena stands as a unique animal sanctuary, providing care for numerous mistreated creatures, including Jupiter the lion. Many of these animals were previously owned by drug traffickers who were apprehended.

Ana Julia Torres, the caretaker of four lions, nine Bengal tigers, jaguars, cougars, a crocodile, a speckled bear, an ostrich, Jocko the chimpanzee, spider monkeys, and hundreds of vibrantly colored birds, mentions that they all share a common thread: they have been victims of abuse. Some are disabled, missing limbs or suffering from blindness, while others struggle with concentration or have even lost an eye.

Initially, Jupiter had lost faith in humanity and developed a fear of human interaction. However, this fear dissipated when he received care from Anna Julia.

Unfortunately, due to reported paperwork issues concerning ownership of the lion, authorities intervened and relocated Jupiter from Anna Julia’s care.

Tragically, Jupiter was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and anemia by veterinarians. He rapidly deteriorated, losing weight and becoming severely ill. During his final visit to Los Caimanes Zoo, Ana Julia discovered that he had kidney and liver damage and had become emaciated.

Jupiter ultimately succumbed to liver cancer and passed away in 2020, but his memory endures. Farewell, Jupiter, may you find happiness in heaven!

May this magnificent lion now rest in peace after enduring immense suffering. A heartfelt thank you to the woman who loved and nurtured him, only to lose him in the end.
