The Romantic Enclosed Garden in the City Center
This garden is small and enclosed, located in the backyard of a townhouse. It is simple and well-suited for our summer retreat. The garden is filled with roses and forget-me-nots, designed by Miria Harris.
The garden exudes a sense of romance. Everything is in harmony: abundant roses, antique sculptures scattered throughout, and circular shapes.
Previously, this garden space was occupied by a car garage. The designer and her team transformed it into a garden within a span of two months.
The courtyard is paved with stones, and brick pathways traverse through it. The centerpiece of the composition is a raised circular flower bed, featuring a 14th-century stone basin. Impressive!
Surrounding the central flower bed, there are smaller circular flower beds arranged in segments.
The roses look exquisite in the stone basin. They are complemented by the delicate-petaled Carvinskii/Erigeron.
The raised flower beds visually diminish the impact of the tall brick walls.
A wrought-iron bench is strategically placed to catch the evening sun.
Espaliered pear trees adorn the garden. Of course, they didn’t grow in just two months. The designer purchased mature, gnarled pear trees, giving the impression that the garden had always been here.
Among the roses, ‘Boscobel’ is the first and last to bloom. Other varieties planted in the garden include ‘Little White Pet,’ ‘Gertrude Jekyll,’ ‘American Pillar,’ and ‘Cardinal Richelieu.’ There are both antique and modern Austin roses. They are fragrant, with beautifully nostalgic flower shapes.
The garden is an embodiment of romance.
