Arsenal’s Captain Offers Updates on the Fitness of Veteran and New Players

Arsenal has kicked off the summer transfer window by splashing 75 million euros to secure the signing of Kai Havertz from Chelsea. The German star was not highly regarded after his underwhelming performances at The Blues.

However, since donning the new Arsenal jersey, Havertz has yet to impress the Gunners’ faithful with his displays, leaving doubts about the quality of the signing. Mikel Arteta deployed Havertz as an attacking midfielder, filling the void left by Granit Xhaka, who moved to Bayer Leverkusen.

Yet, Havertz seems to struggle to adapt to his new position and environment. Many believe that the 24-year-old lacks the physical foundation that Xhaka possesses, making it challenging to utilize him in a versatile role.

Nevertheless, Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, recently expressed his confidence in the German superstar.

When asked by a reporter about who has a better physical foundation between Xhaka and Havertz, Arteta responded, “If I were to ask you this question, how would you answer?”

The reporter replied, “I think Xhaka.”

Arteta continued, “Well, who is the player with a height of around 1.91 meters? The answer depends on how you define fitness – it could be running, moving defensively, or advancing into the opponent’s half or retaining possession. It depends on various factors.”

“Therefore, we will utilize players that fit the specific roles, and the positive thing is that we have options in midfield.”
