Manchester United’s Strong Start to EPL 2023/24: Can They Secure a Top 4 Spot?

In the opening rounds of the 2023/24 Premier League season, Manchester United (MU) has enjoyed a relatively smooth start. Their late clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers proved to be a challenging encounter despite the home advantage at Old Trafford. A solitary goal by Varane in the 76th minute secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory for the Red Devils. While the scoreline might not have fully satisfied Coach Ten Hag, the crucial aspect was the team’s ability to secure all three points, a feat not achieved by all big clubs in the opening round of the league.

Out of the other giants, only Manchester City, Newcastle, and Arsenal managed to secure three points, just like MU. Meanwhile, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Chelsea were held to a single point each. As a result, after the first round, Manchester United finds itself ahead of Tottenham, Liverpool, and Chelsea on the league table.

Despite this promising start, MU has yet to break into the top 4, currently sitting at 7th place. This is mainly due to their goal difference of +1. Newcastle currently leads the Premier League table with 3 points and an impressive goal difference of +4. Brighton, Manchester City, and Arsenal follow closely behind the Magpies.

However, it’s important to remember that this is just the early stage of the Premier League season. The points gap between teams is still quite narrow, which means that the standings are likely to change consistently in the upcoming rounds.

Looking ahead to Round 2, there are two marquee matchups to watch: Manchester City vs Newcastle and Tottenham vs Manchester United. All these clubs are considered strong contenders in the league.

If MU doesn’t perform well, they could quickly find themselves trailing behind Tottenham in the Premier League standings. Similarly, Newcastle might face a similar situation in their away game against Manchester City.

As the season unfolds, it will be intriguing to see if Manchester United can maintain their momentum and secure a spot in the coveted top 4 of the Premier League. The competition is fierce, and every match will play a crucial role in shaping the final standings.
