Messi Gifts Pink and Black Headphones to Entire Inter Miami Team
In a heartwarming gesture, new signing Lionel Messi presented pink and black Beats by Dre headphones to all members of Inter Miami as a welcoming gift. Defender DeAndre Yedlin revealed this generous act after Inter Miami’s victory against Atlanta United in the J Leagues Cup on July 26.
During the post-match interview, 30-year-old American defender Yedlin was seen sporting the new pink and black headphones adorned with the Inter Miami logo. When asked about the headphones, he replied, “You have to ask Messi. He gave them to the whole team. I don’t know if Messi purchased these headphones, but he gifted them to the entire team after his debut match.”
Reportedly, the Beats by Dre headphones gifted by Messi to the Inter Miami team are valued at $4,000 each. Considering there are 27 players in the team, excluding Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, former Barcelona teammates, and Messi himself, the Argentine star spent approximately $108,000 on these gifts.
Aside from the positive impression he made in the dressing room, Messi showcased his brilliance on the field during his debut matches. He scored a stunning free-kick goal in the fourth minute of injury time to secure a 2-1 victory against Cruz Azul in his debut match. In the following match against Atlanta United, Messi contributed two goals and an assist, leading Inter Miami to a convincing 4-0 win.
With these goals, Messi added Cruz Azul and Atlanta United to the list of 99 and 100 clubs he has scored against throughout his club career, which includes Barcelona, PSG, and now Inter Miami. Sevilla and Atletico Madrid top this list, having conceded to Messi 38 and 32 times, respectively. Arsenal holds the record for being the European club that Messi has scored against the most, with nine goals.
This list is expected to grow further as Messi and Inter Miami continue to compete in the Leagues Cup and are yet to play any matches in the Major League Soccer (MLS). The 36-year-old forward is set to make his MLS debut against Charlotte on August 21.
Notably, Messi has a history of generous gifting, having previously spent $210,000 to gift 35 gold-plated iPhones to his teammates, coaching staff, and employees of the Argentina national team after their World Cup triumph. Each iPhone was individually customized with a 24-carat gold plating and featured the Argentina national team logo and the name of each team member.
Moreover, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner also gifted a red lucky bracelet, believed to ward off bad luck, to his Argentina national team teammate Paulo Dybala and former Barcelona teammate Philippe Coutinho. The bracelet has its origins in Judaism and is considered a symbol of good fortune. Messi has made several visits to Jerusalem, Israel, known as the Holy Land for the Jewish people.
