Rebecca Lynch and her husband were enjoying their vacation in Savannah. As they were driving back from Georgia, they pulled over on the side of the road. While most people collect souvenirs during their vacations, Rebecca had a different idea to commemorate their trip.

In their home state, there were several animal shelters, so Rebecca decided to adopt a local cat. Their car had enough space to accommodate a four-legged passenger.

Rebecca came across a terrier named Lizzie, who had miraculously escaped euthanasia just as preparations were being made for her tragic fate. The dog’s previous owners had brought her, along with her unborn puppies, to the shelter with the knowledge that they would be put down. On top of it all, Lizzie had also suffered a fractured leg.

Seeing the amount of suffering this little dog had endured, Rebecca knew that Lizzie, more than anyone else, needed a loving home and caring owners. With a comfortable blanket arranged for her in the backseat, Lizzie settled in as she left the Georgia shelter with the Lynch family.

At first, the dog was anxious during the first few hours of the journey, but soon realized that no harm would come to her. And then, something unexpected happened on the road—Lizzie went into labor. Perhaps it was her time to become a mother, or maybe she had finally realized that these people would care for her and her puppies just like their own children.

Rebecca, who had just become Lizzie’s owner, also took on the role of a midwife, assisting the dog during labor and caring for the newborn puppies.

Lizzie gave birth to three puppies on the way to the vet clinic, and another was born upon arrival, under the watchful eye of the veterinarians. The remaining two puppies arrived during the continued journey.

Lizzie and her puppies were doing well, but they needed to stay at the vet clinic for a few days to ensure they received a thorough check-up from the experts. After the clinic visit, the family continued to their new home, where the Lynches had already prepared everything for the comfort of the mother and her puppies. Once the puppies grow up and become stronger, Rebecca will find loving owners for each one of them.
