This Alpine Modern Swiss Chalet Embodies the Beauty of Minimalism
Switzerland is a country known for its seriousness in various aspects, including its people, mountains, and architecture. However, when it comes to Les Jeurs House, this seriousness becomes captivating rather than off-putting. In fact, we are enamored by it.
Perched high above the charming town of Col de la Forclaz in the Alps, near the French border with Chamonix and Mont Blanc, this angular alpine chalet is a sight to behold.
To preserve the pristine natural landscape, the cabin was designed as two separate structures, each angled at 45 degrees from one another. These forms rest on elevated concrete platforms, creating a sense of balance as they hover above the valley below.
The exterior of the chalet is adorned with black stained larch, reminiscent of the traditional Japanese shou sugi ban wood burning technique, which we greatly admire. Inside, a contrasting ambiance awaits, with light, untreated wood adorning the interiors, paying homage to the classic Swiss chalet style. The resulting play of light and dark is nothing short of breathtakingly beautiful.
With sweeping views of the surrounding valley, direct access to the mountains from the front door, and an abundance of bright, natural wood throughout, it’s hard to imagine a more idyllic setting.
