Vinicius misses penalty, Ancelotti openly discusses Benzema’s replacement
Quoted from Managingmadrid, Carlo Ancelotti addressed the issue of who would replace Karim Benzema as the penalty taker for the team.
Real Madrid had a disappointing night in Texas, losing 0-3 to Barcelona in a friendly match ahead of the new season. Los Blancos had plenty of chances, but the white-shirted players were unlucky in front of the goal.
Notably, the team hit the woodwork five times, hitting the posts and crossbar. This left Carlo Ancelotti’s men without an honorable goal against their arch-rivals.
After talking about the five times hitting the woodwork, Ancelotti also shared his thoughts on the penalty taker for the team. Against Barca, Vinicius Junior took on the responsibility of the penalty kick, but the Brazilian player failed to score. Vinicius hit the ball directly onto the crossbar, much to his regret.
“Vinicius was very dangerous, and the goal was just a few centimeters away. He was an outstanding star of the match, even though he didn’t score. Modric was not on the pitch, and he usually takes penalties if Benzema is not playing. The penalty taker could be Modric, Vinicius, or Rodrygo. The team is considering those options.”
